Hulu launches a crackdown on password sharing: What happens if you get caught?

Hulu has initiated a crackdown on the leaking of passwords.

The Disney-owned business informed members via email on Wednesday of a modification to the terms of service, which particularly affected password sharing.

“We’re adding limitations on sharing your account outside of your household,” the statement said, “and explaining how we may assess your compliance with these limitations.”

According to Hulu, users are not allowed to share their subscription with anybody outside of their household, which is defined as the group of devices connected to a primary personal dwelling, unless specifically allowed by your service tier. To put it briefly, they cannot utilise your subscription if they do not reside in your home.

Customers cannot “impersonate or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity,” according to the new user agreement, which also prohibits using someone else’s login credentials without that person’s permission.

New subscribers will be subject to the modifications immediately; existing customers will have until March 14 to make the necessary adjustments. Despite the company’s existence since 2007, password sharing has never been expressly prohibited until today.

What occurs if your password is still being shared? Hulu continues, saying that accounts will be examined to see whether they are sharing, and if they are, they may be cancelled or suspended.

The newest streaming service to enforce regulations against password sharing is Hulu. Similar regulations were implemented by Netflix and Disney+ last year. And although there were worries that the crackdown would drive away customers, Netflix, at least, benefited from the action, which resulted in a significant increase in new memberships.
