There will be some important announcements about artificial intelligence at the start of London Tech Week 2023. At the event’s opening, the UK Prime Minister declared that the government has made record-high investments in AI laws and the creation of ethical AI.

The UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said this morning on Twitter that his AI Taskforce has £100 million to spend on funding AI safety and that it is collaborating with DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic to get “early or priority access to models for research and safety purposes.”

With £100 million for our AI Taskforce, we are dedicating more funding to AI safety than any other country in the world.

“We must act — and act quickly,” Sunak said at the conference, “if we want to not only retain our position as one of the world’s tech capitals but to go even further, and make this the best country in the world to start, grow, and invest in tech businesses.”

Both sides of the debate have taken note of the hard work being done by Britain and the European Union to create strict AI legislation. During a recent visit to London, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, warned that if the rules aren’t followed, the business may leave the EU. Later, he recanted those remarks.

The OpenAI, Anthropic, and DeepMind models are expected to be made available to the UK government for use in research and security while the AI Taskforce focuses on foundational models.

Sunak emphasised in his lecture the significance of bringing together the top tech firms, universities, and the government to maintain AI development safe and responsible.
